EMPC has recently
made an agreement with one of the film production companies to restore 50 old
feature films by the city’s Audiovisual Heritage Restoration Center. The films
represent prominent marks in the history of the Egyptian cinema, as they left a
great impact on the public and critics when they were screened over the past
decades.
This comes within the framework of EMPC
keenness to preserve these treasures of Egypt’s huge cinematic reserve of old movies,
many of which have become old, damaged, dilapidated and unfit for screening. Thus, the Audiovisual Restoration Center exerted
a lot of effort to restore those movies, by transferring their image to 4K high
quality technology, in addition to performing digital restoration and color
correction operations that were carried out with the utmost precision and
professionalism, by using the latest scientific equipment and methods to
restore and revive these films once again.
The center has
already finished restoring the film “Les Misérables” directed by Atef Salem and
starred by the late mega-star Farid Shawqi and the actors Adel Adham, Mohsena
Tawfiq, Fardos Abdel Hamid, Nabil Nour El Din and Laila Elwi. The film is based
on the novel of the international writer Victor Hugo, which was produced in
1978 and is now ready to be screened again in its new restored version. It is
noteworthy to mention that the restoration of the rest of this group of movies will
be completed soon to be screened according to the highest standards of quality
and purity.
