The Egyptian Media Production City Co. (EMPC) signed an agreement with the Holding Company for Investment affiliated to the Ministry of Culture, in the fields of Culture and Cinema, to restore 40 old feature films from the classics of the Egyptian cinema at the Center for the Restoration of Audiovisual Heritage at EMPC, as a first phase of more than 300 films owned by the Ministry of Culture.
The contract was signed by Mr. Abdel Fattah El-Gibali, EMPC Chairman of the Board, and Engineer/Mohamed Abu Seda, the CEO of the Holding Company, in the presence of the distinguished star, Hussein Fahmy, the President of the Cairo International Film Festival, and board member of the Holding Company, who will supervise the selection of the first phase of the movies that will be restored.
Al-Gibali welcomed the cooperation with the Holding Company to restore these Classics by EMPC Heritage Restoration Center, which, due to its importance, is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment in addition to the professional technicians to keep pace with international standards of quality. Moreover, EMPC expressed its full readiness to enhance the cooperation between the two sides in many related fields.
Engineer. Muhammad Abu Seda, the distinguished artist / Hussein Fahmy, and the accompanying delegation had a tour at the Center for the Restoration of Audiovisual Heritage, to know thoroughly the stages of film restoration. During the tour, they listened to a detailed explanation from Eng.Nada Hossam El-Din, director of the center, about the method of transferring the image of old damaged films to high-quality 4K technology, in addition to the digital restoration and color correction processes, which are carried out with the utmost precision and professionalism. The guests watched a number of movies, which were restored after they got damaged and old, to reach the highest levels of quality for picture and sound clarity. At the end of the tour, the guests expressed their admiration for this technological boom witnessed by the city and praised its role in restoring the heritage of the Egyptian cinema.
In his speech on
this occasion, the distinguished artist Hussein Fahmy expressed his happiness
at visiting EMPC Heritage Restoration Center, mentioning its important role in
restoring movies and bringing them back to life, thanks to its crew and EMPC
administration, which pays great attention to this center and provides it with all
facilities and capabilities. He said, there are a large number of old Egyptian movies
of great value, which are owned by the holding company and production companies,
which are considered part of the history of Egyptian cinema and need to be
restored and revived again.
He stressed that the process of restoring these films is considered the first phase of cooperation with the city, and will be followed by many steps to restore the huge amount of these films at EMPC Restoration Center. He thanked the city’s administration and the center crew for their wonderful effort to preserve the Egyptian cinema heritage.
It is noteworthy
to mention that EMPC Restoration Center for Audiovisual Heritage has restored
many old feature films and documentaries, including the films of the Egypt
cinema journal, which is owned by the State Information Service, and is
considered an extremely important information treasure, documenting many
important historical events and major occasions.
The Center has also
restored many films that were considered landmarks in the history of Egyptian
cinema and left a great impact on the audience and critics when they were
shown, including the films, Les Misérables, People at theTop, and many other
films that participated in several film festivals inside and outside Egypt.
