The Audio-Visual Heritage Restoration Center at EMPC is considered one of the largest specialized restoration centers in the Middle East. It was established in 2018 to preserve the heritage and ancient photographic treasures owned by Egypt before they are damaged or get old.
The center is also an important qualitative leap in this specialty in Egypt, as it offers a wide range of services in the field of restoring cinema heritage and films digital restoration. As Egypt owns the largest share of movies in the Arab world, about three quarters of the number of movies produced since 1930, and for fear that this huge and precious stock will be damaged and worn out, EMPC has taken this step out of its cultural responsibility to save this huge cinema heritage and preserve it for future generations.
The center includes the latest technologies in the field of digital film scanning, converting it to a digital format with the highest quality 6K and digital restoration, That’s in addition to a group of well-trained professionals in order to preserve the vision of the original filmmakers for future generations and to reach the highest level of efficiency to keep pace with the international standards specialized in this regard.
Services provided by the Restoration Center
1- Films Physical restoration:
It is the first important stage to restore the film. This process is manual in which the films are manually checked and all joints, holes, fractures and ruptures of images are repaired and cleaned to remove dirt and dust accumulated on the surface of the filmstrip.
2- Film scanning:
In order to recover film material from severely degraded filmstrips, the center is equipped with a highly professional ARRISCAN XT scanner that is capable of capturing as much detail as possible and delivering up to 6k resolution, paving the way to reach back and restore the image to its original greatness.
The center also contains an advanced device attached to the scanner, ARRISCAN WETGATE, which provides a unique solution to hide dust and scratches and thus improve the quality of the transmitted image.
3- Digital restoration:
● Digital Image Restoration: A group of the most advanced digital recovery programs in the world is used, whereby the missing information in the image is replaced by the images that precede and follow it to re-create the parts of the missing or severely damaged images while restoring the sharpness of colors and image stability.
● Sound restoration: the sound is purified and corrected using Protools, in addition to sound recovery in an advanced way using image to sound tools provided by ARRI, which is an effective method for transmitting sound in a digital form by transcribing the sound in the form of an image using the high-quality scanning device provided by ARRISCAN XT.
* Restoration of the entire collection of the Egyptian Film Newspaper (2389 issues) covering the time period from 1952 to 2015 for Egypt State Information Service.
* Restoration of 140 documentary films for Egypt State Information Service.
* Restoration of the feature films “A Little Love… Lots of Violence” 1995, “Watch Out for Zuzu” 1972, and “Love in Karnak” 1967 for Red Sea International Film Festival.
* Restoration of the feature films “Diary of a Deputy in the Countryside” 1969 and “A Song on the Passage” 1972 for Cairo International Film Festival.
UP SKILL is one of the most important activities offered by the city, which aims to improve the capabilities and skills of its trainees, whether graduates of the International Academy of Engineering and Media Sciences, or media workers, and media professionals inside and outside Egypt, in order to create promising media cadres, qualified on sound scientific grounds, which helps them to keep up with the great development in the field of media in its various branches, where the center provides Specialized courses, in the fields of various media, engineering and business management, and grants certificates accredited in specialized training in these fields, and is supervised by the training programs in the center elite professors, and experienced professional and scientific, in all training activities provided by the center.
The training center has recently witnessed a great development both in the training programs provided, and in terms of infrastructure, additional expansions have been made to the center, where it now includes 6 various training rooms, used for various training purposes, equipped with the latest modern training methods in addition to the modern "Mac" laboratory equipped with the latest programs for editing, in addition to a platter dedicated to training on talk shows, dramas, and the center was also provided MoJO studio is equipped with the latest modern means, used in the fields of media, engineering and business management.
There is no doubt that the presence of the Training and Development Center within the city of media production, is an additional advantage, to provide all the ingredients for success and excellence for the trainees, where it gives them a golden opportunity to enjoy all the great scientific and human capabilities of the city, and practical training within its studio.
The city administration provides all means of success and excellence to the center, to attract more students and trainees from brotherly Arab countries or friendly countries, through the signing of many protocols with Egyptian, Arab and international universities and african media students, to train within the center, and in order to achieve this, the city provided the center with an annex for expatriates of different nationalities, equipped with interpretation booths, and modern training halls, as the city allowed the center, to use the latest devices of its devices from different nationalities. The Dolby Atmos Studio project in Media Production City is one of the latest high-quality systems applied in cinemas that embody and distribute sound, and it is the first of its kind and the largest for cinematic sound in the Arab region. The use of this system allows the production of cinematic films with high sound techniques that keep pace with the sound systems used in international cinemas, which provides a distinguished service for private film production companies in Egypt to use this technology in the production of their new films, especially after adding the Atmos feature, which has no equal in the region Al-Arabiya is only the new studio of the Media Production City.
The Dolby Atmos studio contains the latest used Avid HDX audio mixers, which allow the use of 512 audio tracks that can be mixed up to 128 audio channels through the Dolby Atmos system, in addition to the accompanying metadata to be distributed to the theaters in an optimal dynamic way through the speakers according to theater capabilities.
The AVID S6 M40 audio mixer is the latest of its kind among the existing audio mixers in Egypt and the Arab region, which allows the use of Pro-tools systems for audio to accommodate multiple formats, and this system provides each speaker with a unique feed based on its exact location.
The Dolby Atmos studio contains 47 high-quality speakers that allow the audio engineer to innovate in the distribution of stereo sound. The studio hall contains (18) lower chairs, and (4) VIP chairs.
EMPC comprises of 6 studios complexes that contain 85 TV & radio channels, with entire spaces between 55 m2 and 1200 m2, fully-equipped with technical facilities for media production, and connected with live transmission to the Nile Sat. Most Egyptian and Arabic Channels broadcast from EMPC studios.
The Egyptian Media Production City has hundreds of professional set construction managers. They are ready to undertake all metal, wood and painting preparations necessary for the decoration designs and sets.
They include the latest post-production studios, editing, 3D modeling, after effects, telecine, color correction, a huge sound studio that can accommodate an entire orchestra, final version printing laboratories, and a huge digital library equipped with the latest archiving system technology.
These represent another asset to EMPC.
It is here that recordings of major musical troupes can be made with hi-tech digitized and computerized recording and mixing equipment.
EMPC also offers a sound-effects library, an SSL sound mixer, a Pro-tool HD3 and highly sensitive microphones.

EMPC has a ministerial bureau that includes a whole suite, offices, meeting rooms, elevators and rest rooms.

Media Sciences Department
This department includes four Credit hour system programs, provided that learning in this department is not less than three years in order to obtain a bachelor’s degree, on condition that the student successfully passes 132 credit hours, at the end of the first, second and summer semesters of each year.
The Academy grants a bachelor’s degree in media sciences plus an equivalency from the Supreme Council of Universities in one of the following specialized programs:
● Radio and TV production program
● Film Production Program
● Advertising Production Program
● Multimedia and Internet Program
Business Administration Department
The department includes six programs, three of which are taught in Arabic, and three in English. Learning in this department is according to the credit-hour system and it should not be less than three years in order to obtain a bachelor’s degree, provided that the student successfully passes 132 credit hours at the end of the first, second and summer semesters of each year.
The Academy grants a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and an equivalency from the Supreme Council of Universities, in one of the following academic programs:
● Media Institutions Management Program.
● Accounting and finance program.
● Marketing and advertising program.
The department includes five credit hour system programs, provided that the duration of learning in this department is not less than four years, in order to obtain a bachelor’s degree, on condition that the student successfully passes 144 credit hours, by the end of the first, second and summer semesters of each year.
The Academy grants a bachelor’s degree in engineering accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and an equivalency from the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities in one of the following programs:
● Architectural Engineering Program.
● Civil Engineering Program.
● Power and Electrical Machinery Engineering Program.
● Electronics and Communications Engineering Program.
● Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence Program.
All Department graduates are registered in the Egyptian Syndicate of Engineers.
